Older: The Best of Rosa Passos
Program #1295 - 'Rosa Passos'

Make workdays a breeze! Or at home, in your car, wherever you are.
Even in our connected culture, Brazil is stil half a world away for most of us. Thankfully, that distance - at least when measured in musical terms - is erased with ease and grace, courtesy of the country's abundant wealth of talented singers and songwriters. Rosa Passos is one of the best, and you'll soon hear why when you listen to our weekly show this time around.
Friday's Brazil Back2Back serves up a pair of breezy Bossas from Austrailia's Adam Dunning just in time for the weeekend. Listen at the top of the hour at 11 am and 2 pm CT, exclusively on our streaming station. Daily Listening Guide.

Sunday's Brazilian Brunch celebrates birthdays for Astrud Gilberto and Zizi Possi to help wrap up our month of 'Songs In The Feminine Key'. Only on Sundays at 5 am, 9 am and 2 and 8 pm Central time and only on The Sounds of Brazil's streaming station.

This week’s show:
My Producer's Notes
Listen to our weekly show Monday-Friday at 7am, 3pm, 6pm and midnight Central Time (US). Weekends, too. Daily Schedule.
Some say that singer and songwriter Rosa Passos has made a pact with the devil for João Gilberto's musical soul and got the better part of the deal. Delicately creative on her own terms, she's steadily risen out of the "best kept secret" category by virtue of her early performances on Kenny Rankin's award-winning "Here In My Heart" CD and a clutch of critically acclaimed solo albums on small Brazilian imprints. We'll feature several tracks from her wonderful 'Amorosa' tribute to the music of that very same João Gilberto, along with a look at some of her earlier hits, culled from her legendary 'Best of Rosa Passos' album.
The CD became a hard-to-find classic when the Velas label abruptly ceased operations a few years ago but this "Best of" compilation is an exquisitely sequenced disc that does an almost perfect job in sketching the still evolving career of this singer/guitarist with the pretty alto voice and lilting playing style. Even in Brasil, Passos' early recordings may only show up occasionally, so these selections serve as a perfect introduction to the singer for the Americans who have never heard her. And the compositions are by names even the most casual Brasilian music fan knows: Jobim, Djavan and Dori Caymmi.
We’ve surrounded her with a special supporting cast of great tunesmiths: George Benson, Deodato, James Taylor and Brazilian guitarist Toninho Horta make it to our playlist this week, along with keyboardist Marcos Ariel, Bebel Gilberto and even a September Samba from Indigo City, plus a tune from the German/Brazilian group Slowdown and their debut album ‘Retrospectives’.
