The past two years bring our voting list up to date, and with it – a question: “Where is ‘The Girl From Ipanema’? And how about Sergio Mendes and ‘Mas Que Nada’ or Astrud Gilberto’s ‘Fly Me To The Moon’? The answer is a simple one: just as The Sounds of Brazil has stayed at the cutting edge of the Brazilian sound, only ‘new’ songs from their respective years have been included on the weekly ballots..
Trivia:
Did you know that The Sounds of Brazil’s theme songs have remained the same from our very first show in 1992? Our opening theme, ‘Aquarela do Brasil’ (‘Brazil’) is from Brazilian jazz/fusion trumpeter Marcio Montarroyos’ CD, ‘Terra Mater’ and our closing theme ‘Dreams of Brazil’ from the Philadelphia-based Brazilian American group Minas and their album of the same name. While both of these songs are long-time fan favorites, we decided not to include them as part of our Most Popular Song Contest..
